8 Books that Make Your Life Easier

Books. A treasure trove of knowledge, emotion, entertainment, and history hidden among pages, and carefully bound between two covers. The stories of our forefathers, our foremothers, strangers, friends, intellectuals, regular people. The literal embodiment of someone's thoughts, feelings, and imagination.

Books are a gift. They're something near and dear to my heart, and if you're reading this, I suspect they're something magical for you, too.

One of the best things about books is the lessons that lie within them.

Here are 8 books you won't want to miss with valuable lessons to make your life easier + links for each!

1. THE 12 WEEK YEAR

The 12 Week Year by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington is a book about goal-setting and productivity. The authors give you an approachable framework for setting, and hitting, the goals that mean most to you - and they explain the psychology behind it. It's well written, and easy read, and the results you can glean from it have the potential to be life-changing.

2. BIG MAGIC

Brought to you from the esteemed author of Eat, Pray, Love, Elizabeth Gilbert shares more of her own life experiences in Big Magic, a book about creative living. Gilbert explains why creative living is the most satisfying way to live, redefines 'creativity', and gives you the courage and permission to create, share, and be unafraid. This book is about living the most meaningful life you possibly can.

3. IN ORDER TO LIVE

In Order to Live by Yeonmi Park reads like fiction but is actually the terrifying true story of a young North Korean's girl escape from North Korea and her journey to freedom. This book is eye-opening to the horrific realities of what goes on in North Korea to this day, and, while difficult to read, it's filled with hope and leaves you feeling grateful for your own life and the things you may often take for granted.

4. RICH DAD, POOR DAD

I'd be remiss if I didn't include my all-time favorite financial books here, and this one tops the list. Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki is hands-down the most helpful financial book I've ever read, simplifying what the rich teach their children that the middle-class and the poor don't. It levels the financial playing field with easy-to-follow lessons, and leaves you feeling empowered and ready to take action.

5. THE ONE THING

The One Thing by Gary Keller (of the successful Keller Williams real estate company) and Jay Papasan is a productivity book that focuses on identifying the one thing that's most important for hitting your goals and relentlessly working on that one thing in order to achieve amazing results. It reminds us of the truth behind The Pareto Principle which states that 80% of outcomes are driven by 20% of efforts, and reminds us again and again to work smarter not harder by focusing on the 20% of efforts that matter most.

6. YOUR MONEY OR YOUR LIFE

Your Money Or Your Life by Vicki Robin is a valuable book that looks at redefining how we think of money. It reminds us that money is the equivalent of life energy and teaches us to think of our purchases in terms of the amount of TIME it costs us - not dollars. For example, thinking "This $65 shirt costs 2 hours of my life". A priceless read that's foundational for redefining your relationship with money and transforming your finances.

7. DIGITAL GOLD

If cryptocurrency is confuses you but you'd like to understand it, read Digital Gold: Bitcoin and the Inside Story of the Misfits and Millionaires Trying to Reinvent Money by Nathaniel Popper. Popper is a journalist, so he writes in normal language and the entire thing reads like fiction. It gives an entertaining, educational account of cryptocurrency, Bitcoin, the key players, how things came to be, and why crypto could be a valuable asset.

8. THE MILLIONAIRE NEXT DOOR

To round out the list, The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas Stanley & William Danko reminds us that the generally-accepted idea of a millionaire (fancy cars, clothes, private jets, luxury lifestyles) is actually NOT the reality. Most self-made millionaires are regular people living beneath their means - and they live right next door and among us all. It's a healthy reminder that wealth doesn't have to look fancy and luxurious - and it typically doesn't.
